Itinerary

Leave Mexico City early in the morning and head to the Tolantongo Caves seeing a change of natural landscapes as you go. The road in total will take around 4 hours. On the way, have the chance to stop at a traditional market in the historical town of Ixmiquiplan to try (at your own expense) deliciously fresh barbacoa and pulque, the iconic specialties of the Hidalgo State. 

Once in Tolantongo, visit an impressive natural cave, tunnel, and river, all fed by volcanically heated water. Except for this, see impressive waterfalls and soak in one of 40 pools built into the cliffs of a picturesque canyon. Typical arid vegetation like yuccas, mesquites, and cacti may also be found here. The large 1,640-ft (500 m) deep canyon through which waterfalls descend to form turquoise pools with privileged views of the surrounding mountains stands out in this landscape. If you're into more adventures, take a breathtaking zipline or go to explore the area taking some of its hiking trails. Alternatively, have an optional delicious meal or drink in one of the restaurants, take impressive photographs, or just relax in the hot springs. You'll have around five hours to rest and enjoy this natural spa located at an altitude of about 4,200 ft (1,280 meters) above sea level, scenery that will astonish you from the minute we arrive!

At the end of the day, return to your vehicle and rest on the way back to Mexico City.

Logistics

BOOKING AND CONFIRMATION
This tour needs manual confirmation from our side. Once you receive it (normally not later than 12 h after the booking if done during the week, and Monday afternoon if the booking was done during the weekend), your tour is confirmed: just show up in time at the meeting point and be able to present your booking (can be in electronic version on your phone) to your guide upon request.

DEPARTURE AND RETURN
Please arrive at least 10 min before the departure time: Monday and Friday at 6:00 AM, next to the Angel de la Independencia roundabout, close to City Express Reforma Hotel (here). Once there, meet your guide who will be holding a sign with the logo of the company. The tour will finish at the same departure point around 08:00 PM. In case of necessity, our guide might need to contact you by phone, so please provide a valid contact number during your booking.

WHAT TO TAKE WITH YOU

Swimming suit, towel, water shoes, water-resistant phone case (most of those can be bought on the spot); some cash if you would like to buy some souvenirs or meals (no bank cards are accepted in Tolantongo); valid travel insurance, personal ID; good mood and curiosity.

• The type of vehicle will depend on the size of the group and may include a car, 7-seater, or minivan.
