Itinerary
Get ready for our Winter Tour to Acaxochitlán! A full-day adventure packed with nature, tradition, and authentic flavors! We’ll start early with a transfer to Acaxochitlán, a hidden gem in the heart of Hidalgo. Upon arrival, you’ll meet a welcoming local guide who will be with us throughout the journey, sharing stories and insights that bring this region to life.
Our first experience of the day begins in a community, where a delicious traditional breakfast awaits. Made with local ingredients and prepared Santa Catarina-style, this meal is the perfect introduction to the region’s culinary identity. After breakfast, we’ll make our way to explore a unique area: Huajolotito waterfalls. These scenic sites are not only visually stunning but also hold deep ceremonial and cultural significance to the local community.
Next, we’ll pause for a well-deserved lunch at a nearby eatery known for its fresh, locally-sourced trout and a variety of regional specialties. It’s a great chance to relax and savor the authentic flavors of Acaxochitlán. With satisfied appetites, we’ll return to the heart of Santa Catarina for a meaningful cultural experience: a traditional embroidery demonstration. Here, you’ll see firsthand how local artisans preserve ancestral techniques, using embroidery to tell stories and represent their identity through symbolic patterns and beautiful colors.
In the afternoon, we continue our journey with a short drive to the atmospheric ruins of the old hydroelectric plant “La Trinidad.” This industrial relic is a unique contrast to the natural beauty surrounding it and offers a glimpse into the area's more recent past. Just nearby, we’ll take a peaceful walk to admire La Trinidad waterfall.
To wrap up our day, we’ll head to a place where you’ll be introduced to the artisanal process of aguardiente distillation. This hands-on demonstration showcases traditional methods still used to produce this local spirit, offering both cultural insight and a taste of something special.
As the sun begins to set, we’ll begin our transfer back to Mexico City, carrying with us a day full of rich experiences, local traditions, and unforgettable landscapes. Ready to explore a side of Mexico that few travelers get to see? Let’s go!
