ITINERARY

Day 1: Los Mochis

Start our Copper Canyon in Mexico by Train Chepe Tour in one of the most important towns in Sinaloa. Arrive at your accommodation in Los Mochis at any time and explore this tranquil and beautiful place, also known as the getaway to Copper Canyon. In the evening, join your Tour Leader and the rest for a welcome dinner in one of the local restaurants.

Day 2: Los Mochis - Topolobampo - El Fuerte

In the morning, transfer to Topolobampo to take a boat tour to explore the stunning bay and enjoy different activities such as bird watching and have the chance to meet Pechocho, the gorgeous and friendly dolphin that lives there. If you have some luck, you will be able to touch him and play with him from your boat. Once finished, transfer to El Fuerte and learn about the history of this little town that is shown in the Museum. Also, admire the Fuerte River from the rooftop and enjoy one of the most amazing views of this place. In the afternoon, arrive at your accommodation and take your time to relax or continue exploring this beautiful place. Later on, join your Tour Leader and the rest of the group for an orientation walk of the town and have an optional dinner in one of the local restaurants.

Day 3: El Fuerte - Bahuichivo - Cerocahui

In the morning, take Train El Chepe and start your trip to the Copper Canyon. Enjoy stunning landscapes on this fantastic journey on the only passenger train in Mexico. Arrive at Bahuichivo in the afternoon and then, transfer to your accommodation in Cerocahui, a small town in Chihuahua internationally recognized for being one of the main places for the Holy Week festivities of the Tarahumara ethnic groups. After that, join your Tour Leader and the rest of the group for an orientation walk.

Day 4: Cerocahui - Cerocahui Waterfalls - Mirador del Cerro del Gallego - Urique

In the morning, go to Cerocahui Waterfalls to discover Chihuahua´s nature from a unique perspective. After that, head to a nearby viewpoint to admire one of the most beautiful views of Urique Canyon from 2000 meters high. Later on, transfer to the charming town of Urique and explore this hidden mountainous place with your Tour Leader. Finally, have an optional dinner and get together with your group in one of the local restaurants.

Day 5: Urique - Cerocahui - Bahuichivo - Divisadero 

In the morning, transfer back to Cerocahui to enjoy a train trip to Divisadero, the favorite destination for those who seek extraordinary and wonderful landscapes. Once there, taste some local food and explore this stunning place. Later on, join your Tour Leader and the rest of the group for a guided hike. Finally, get an optional dinner and get together with your group in one of the local restaurants.

Day 6: Divisadero - Creel

Continue your "Copper Canyon in Mexico by Train Chepe Tour" by going to Copper Canyon Adventure Park to explore this beautiful place and do some optional activities like zip lining, zip riding, hiking, via ferrata, and so on. Then, take a cable car to enjoy amazing views of the canyon from above. After that, transfer to your accommodation in Creel, a mysterious place in the heart of the Sierra Tarahumara. On the way, stop at the Oteros River to meet local Tarahumara people, learn about their culture and see their dwellings in caves. Once at your accommodation in Creel, take your time to rest. Later, join your Tour Leader and your group for an orientation walk of the historic center and an optional dinner in one of the local restaurants.

Day 7: Creel - San Juanito - Cascada de Basaseachi National Park

In the morning, visit Sierra Tarahumara to explore its various valleys. Start with the "Valle de las Ranas" with its multiple centuries-old frog-shaped rocks. Then, transfer to "Valle de Los Hongos", known for its enormous boulders resembling mushrooms. After that, visit the mystical "Valle de Los Monjes" to see even more fascinating rock formations. Some claim that you can feel the monks' gaze here. Later on, head to a hanging bridge in San Juanito and opt to cross it or just stay on the ground to admire the beautiful surroundings. Last but not least, visit Basaseachic Falls National Park and take a guided hike to discover one of the highest waterfalls in Mexico.

Day 8:  Cascada de Basaseachi National Park - Ciudad Cuauhtemoc - Chihuahua 

In the morning, transfer to Ciudad Cuauhtemoc, a historical town known for the largest Mennonites community in Latin America. Learn about this unique ethnic group in a local museum, and transfer to your accommodation in Chihuahua. Once a wealthy colonial mining town, it's the capital and largest city of the same-named state nowadays. Once there, join your Tour Leader for a walking tour of the city's historic center. Finally, get together with your group for an optional farewell dinner in one of the local restaurants in the evening.

Day 9:  Playa del Carmen

  • ACCOMMODATIONS: All accommodations are centrally located, tourist-class, locally-owned properties with private facilities in each room. We can arrange pre-and post-tour accommodations but not earlier than 2 weeks before the departure when we send you final trip notes.
  • TRANSPORT: The type of vehicle depends on the size of the group and may include a car, 7-seater, or minivan.
  • PHYSICAL CONDITION: This tour involves a decent amount of walking and some hiking. Therefore, travelers should have at least moderate physical fitness condition.
  • ACTIVITIES: Participation in all activities is optional - just be sure to be in time for daily departures.
  • AGE: Due to the required physical condition, the recommended age of participants in this tour is 12-69 years. However, potential participants outside of the above-mentioned age group can still participate upon request if (1) they are in good physical condition (2) that will allow them to cope with the pace of the group tour.
  • WHAT TO TAKE WITH YOU: Comfortable clothes and shoes; swimming suit and slippers; a smaller backpack for daily tours; hat/cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen; travel insurance; good mood and curiosity.
  • GROUP vs PRIVATE TOUR: Group tour - take a scheduled trip with other travelers. Private tour - take a trip on your own, with friends or family. Private tours are customizable (you can depart any day and we can add additional stops & activities on your request) and thus may cost more than group tours.
